Introduction to the village of Varsány

The village of Varsány is a settlement of 1,577 people in Northern Hungary, in the northern corner of Nógrád county, in the northern part of the Northern Central Mountains and the Cserhát. The settlement is located on the slopes of Cserhát, surrounded by hills that are green with forests and meadows. For more than 8 centuries, people have lived here in almost complete symbiosis with the landscape. Even today, the village's inhabitants preserve their ancestors' traditions and culture, passing on their knowledge to future generations. Varsány is first mentioned in a document from 1219, then still under the name Vosyan.

The village is fully serviced, and its telecommunications and IT connections are modern. The settlement provides basic health care, a children's home, a kindergarten, an elementary school, and tourist facilities such as the Rozmaring restaurant, a Handicrafts and Guesthouse, a House of Tradition Keepers, and a Village Museum.

A colorful palette of social engagement has emerged at the initiative of active citizens, which is best demonstrated by the civil organizations operating in the settlement, among which are associations organized along the areas of interest: the Varsányi Faluszepítő, Tradition Preservation and Cultural Association, Varsány Sports Association, the Varsány Wine Lovers Association, Varsány Civil Guard Association, Tábi Hunting Association, Varsány-Tábpusztai Fishing Association, and the Nógrád Tourism Association.

I found that the settlement is inhabited by hospitable and kind people in Nógrád county, close to the Slovak border. We can boast of countless cultural and ethnographic values. We are one of the rare settlements where folk costumes are still alive and traditions are cherished. We organize festivals throughout the year, which are now visited by thousands of people. The Varsányi túrós lepény is famous far and wide, and received the Nógrádikum award in 2018. I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone visit us and see for themselves.
